| As
a Human Resources professional, you know that the keys
to success in this challenging field are: keeping current on HR
issues, trends, and skills; developing a strong support network;
and contributing to your organization's success. EIHRA was created
to help you in all of these areas.

President, Laura Kehlenbrink
It is a great
honor to serve as your 2009 President of the Eastern Indiana Human
Resource Association. I have been an active member of the EIHRA
since 1995 and have served on the EIHRA Board of Directors for the
past 6 years.
The world of
HR has faced many challenges in the past and 2009 will prove to
be a year with many more. We have before us a year of changes including
the new FMLA and ADA regulations along with coming legislation on
the federal and state levels.
Looking ahead
to the Obama Administration, there is a great potential impact on
human resource and organizational issues due to the 2009 policy
agenda in Washington that includes health care reform, workplace
flexibility- FMLA, immigration reform, sexual orientation non-discrimination,
NLRA amendments, pay equity, and retirement issues.
You can help
shape future legislation by getting involved. Write to elected officials!
Part of SHRM's HR Voice
initiative, the Legislative Action
Center helps you track legislation and communicate
effectively with elected officials about federal and state laws
that affect the HR profession.
I suspect that
through it all we, as HR, will summon hidden strength to meet the
issues head on and lead our organizations forward in these challenging
times. In closing, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes
from Sidney Powell that speaks to the service of others.
“Try to
forget yourself in the service of others. For when we think too
much of ourselves and our own interests, we easily become despondent.
But when we work for others, our efforts return to bless us.”
Kindest regards,
Laura I. Kehlenbrink,
SPHR
